A significant achievement in the field of usability is recognizing that LG washing machine errors are displayed as a combination of Latin letters and numbers. Let’s take a closer look at what the errors signal.

The main error codes

LG fault codes are displayed on the dashboard screen, facilitating further diagnosis and repair. With their help, you can try to fix the breakdown yourself or at least consult the professionals of Chula Vista Appliance Repair Company, naming the error code.

№1. Water supply or drain system malfunction

AE indicates an auto shut-off error. It occurs when a special float sensor is triggered. When it appears, you should check the technique for leaks. To do this, inspect all parts of the device that are in contact with water.

Also for diagnosis, you can turn off the power of the machine for 15-25 minutes and then turn it back on.

Possible causes of the error can be problems with the control unit, wear of the door cuff, or mechanical damage to the tank.

The letter combination FE is displayed if the tank is full of water. In this case, the sensor blocks the operation of the system.

Causes of exceeding the water limit:

– A defect in the electrical controller;

– malfunction of the level switch;

– Water intake valve malfunction;

– the large amount of foam in the tank (if unsuitable detergent is used).

To diagnose the problem, check the sensor itself, the spigot, and the wiring to make sure the water level sensor is working properly. Then you should inspect the valve for the presence of a foreign object.

The code E1 means that water has leaked into the washing machine tray due to a leak in the tank.

The combination IE signals a lack of pressure. In this case, water enters the tank extremely slowly, but never reaches the required level in the allotted time (usually 4 minutes).

Possible causes:

– damage to the water inlet valve (it is worth checking the solenoid coils to make sure they are energized);

– defect in the water level sensor;

– clogging of the water intake valve filter (usually with lime deposits);

– holes and kinks in the hose;

– Worn wiring at inlet valve;

– poor valve resistance (below 3 ohms);

– breakdown of the general control board;

– water supply hose not properly installed and partially blocking water opening;

– insufficient pressure in water pipes.

The PE sensor error is similar to IE but does not only occur if the tank is filled with water for a long time. It also occurs if the water is in the machine too quickly (in 1-2 minutes).

In this case, you should also check the water pressure. If the water supply is normal, it is necessary to diagnose the water level sensor. Another cause of the malfunction could be a short circuit or line break.

The OE malfunction is related to exceeding the allowable water level in the drum. It is not uncommon for the code to pop up if the drain failed when some of the water is drained but some are left inside the washer.

The code automatically lights up if the procedure of draining lasts longer than 5 minutes. The malfunction is caused by a clog in the drainage path, namely in the nozzle, pump, filter, and hose.

The drain hose may be twisted or crushed. Drainage problems are sometimes caused by punctured air chambers and faulty pressure sensors.

In some cases, the problems are not due to the washing machine itself, but due to clogs in the piping. To prevent the occurrence of this error, you should periodically clean the drain pipes.

UE – code of water imbalance in the tank.

To fix the problem, you should open the door and straighten some things, and then start washing again.

In some cases, a similar problem occurs due to a small number of things in the drum, because the washing machine simply does not feel their weight. Then you should add more laundry. If these actions did not help, it is necessary to test the electric motor wire, drive belt, controller, and Hall sensor for breakage.

№2. Codes for motor problems

Error code CE appears when the motor (electric motor) is overloaded and the drum is full. You must remove some of the laundry from the machine for further operation. If after releasing the drum the device still does not work, and the display shows the same combination, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the motor and electronic controller.

For models of washing machines that have a direct-drive motor (DD sign), it is necessary to diagnose drum shaking. If it begins to jerk, it will mean a malfunction of the drive motor.

To prevent this malfunction, do not overload the machine. Each device has its own loading limit in kilograms. Usually, information about it is located on the dashboard next to the display.

№3. The error of the loading hatch and door

LE is a hatch interlock error. Occurs as a result of low mains voltage or faulty motor and controller.

As a diagnostic check, if the machine door is closed, the door handle is not chipped, the door fuse is functional, and interlock wiring should be checked for integrity of the rotor (no cracks or tears) and no foreign objects that prevent the drum from rotating.

Error code DE indicates that the hopper is not completely closed.

In order to rule out technical problems, you should check if the door is closed correctly and push it in tightly.

In some cases, the door handle will need to be replaced due to damage, wear, or misalignment of the locking hook. If this does not eliminate the problem, two mechanisms must be checked: the electrical controller or the hatch locking device.

№4. Problems with the heating element and power supply

Error code HE indicates a problem with the heating element. If the water heater element is completely broken, it will have to be replaced with a new one.

The letter combination may also indicate:

– An incomplete power supply circuit;

– broken temperature sensor;

– malfunction of the outlets to which the washing machine is connected.

The TE combination indicates problems with the temperature sensor (thermistor) when the actual temperature inside the tank does not correspond to the readings on the display, as well as when the machine is unable to heat water to the required values. This error signals a problem with the heating circuit (including the heating element).

The PF error indicates a power failure in the washing machine. It could be due to:

– improper fastening of the power cord;

– Loose connection of the power plug;

– malfunction in the connectors on the main control board;

– the machine is plugged into a multi-function plug instead of a wall outlet;

– Failure of the heating element;

– Faulty wiring and connection of the safety filter.

SE is a private error code unique to direct-drive washing machines. It is also called a malfunctioning Hall sensor or tachonogenerator (needed to control the rotor speed of the washing machine).

If the device breaks, it should be replaced with a new one. Externally, the malfunction is characterized by the malfunction of the drum (the shaft does not rotate).

The letter code CL does not relate to the error indicators but appears on the display if the child lock function is set. The machine does not respond to the buttons on the display and does not open.

EE and E3 – these rare LG washing machine error codes most often appear on the display the first time you use it during a test or when the unit cannot detect a load.
